For thirty-three years Galway Community Pride has supported the LGBTI+ community every year with a celebration and parade.
It hasn’t always been plain sailing and there have been many ups and downs along the way but no matter happened there has always been an event to recognise Galway Pride. Even during COVID we had a parade!
From the small humble beginnings os Nuala Ward and her friends, to the 2022 parade of approximately 4000 people marching through the streets, Galway Pride will continue to support the LGBTI+ and work with other agencies to ensure the wellbeing of our community.
The mission of Galway Pride is work to influence legislation and societal positions, nationally and globally, for the purpose of improving the conditions for sexual and gender identity minorities, including producing an annual Galway Pride Week, as well as other events.
Our vision is to create a better Ireland in which all LGBTI+ people live safely and openly as our whole selves in the communities we call home.
Our work is grounded in social justice. We are committed to:
- Harnessing our fundraising, grant making, program, and advocacy efforts to address root causes of discrimination impacting the LGBTI+ community;
- Supporting community leaders and organisations that work to eliminate long-standing barriers to equal access, opportunities, and resources for LGBTQ+ people; and
- Expanding and deepening the level of engagement among all LGBTI+ people and allies, including people who are economically, racially, socially, geographically, or politically disenfranchised.
We are guided by these core values:
